VIGILANCE BUREAU NABS PUNJAB HOME GUARD VOLUNTEER TAKING RS 10,000 BRIBE

Chandigarh, May 15, 2024 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Wednesday has arrested Punjab Home Guards (PHG) volunteer Balwinder Singh, deployed at special branch Patiala for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned PHG volunteer has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Rajiv Choudhary, a resident of Rajpura town, district Patiala.

He further informed that the above said complainant has approached the VB and informed that he bought Renault Kwid car from a dealer but he was not providing the documents of the car i.e RC, Insurance, etc. The complainant has lodged a complaint against the dealer which was marked to Head Constable Jagroop Singh and PHG Balwinder Singh who were asking to pay the bribe of Rs 10,000 in lieu of taking action on his complaint.

He further informed that the above said complainant has approached the VB and informed that he bought Renault Kwid car from a dealer but he was not providing the documents of the car i.e RC, Insurance, etc. The complainant has lodged a complaint against the dealer which was marked to Head Constable Jagroop Singh and PHG Balwinder Singh who were asking to pay the bribe of Rs 10,000 in lieu of taking action on his complaint.

The spokesperson informed that after preliminary verification of this complaint, the VB team laid a trap in which the above said accused PHG Balwinder Singh has been caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

He added that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB Police Station, Patiala range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
