CEO Punjab flags off Mobile Vans as part of ongoing Special Summary Revision campaign

The office of Chief Electoral officer, Punjab flagged off five mobile vans to augment the ongoing special campaign for enrolment and deletion of votes. These five vans shall ply in the districts namely – SAS Nagar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar and Barnala. These five districts were identified for the intervention of gaps to create overall healthy electoral roll.

Mobile Vans shall supplement the ongoing drive of enrolment/correction/deletion of voters list and forms shall be accepted on the spots, moving around at the prominent places. Five identified assembly constituencies include – Mohali (SAS Nagar), Ludhiana, South, Urmur (Hoshiarpur District), Chamkaur Sahib (Rupnagar District) and Barnala. While Urmur (Hoshiarpur District) and Ludhiana South are chosen for gender ratio, rest of three constituencies have low Electoral Population (EP) ratio i.e. number of electors is less compared to the total population. Ludhiana, South has less number of female electors, Urmur (Hoshiarpur) on the other hand has less number of male electors as compared to females.

Dr. S. Karuna Raju, IAS, CEO, Punjab on this occasion said, “The very foundation of a democracy lies in the representation of all the communities and the inclusion of all in its electoral process. For the targeted intervention of EP ratio and gender ratio, we have started this initiative to directly reach out to the citizens of the concerned constituencies.”

Giving information about the campaign,  Madhvi Kataria, IAS, Additional CEO said that specially designed vans with specific messages to the target groups is unique effort. At specified points the van would halt and cultural activities would be performed to attract voters to get themselves registered. The state icon Sonu Sood’s poster and audio/video appeal shall be another feature of this special drive.

The draft electoral roll was published on 16.11.2020 and as per the guidelines of Election Commission of India, forms can be filled up till 15.12.2020. Under this campaign special camps are being held on 05.12.2020 (Saturday) and 06.12.2020 (Sunday) at all the polling booths of the Punjab and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) shall be present.

Forms can also be filled in online through website www.voterportal.eci.gov.in or through Voter Helpline Mobile App. Those who are attaining the age of 18 years as on 01.01.2021 can register as a voter.
