Reacting to the results of the municipal bodies’ elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stated that this was the first time that the AAP had contested the MC elections. The party welcomes the fatwa issued by the voters of Punjab. In a statement issued from the party headquarters, senior leader of the party and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the results of the municipal bodies’ elections were a good sign for the party. He said that the party’s base in urban areas had increased and the party’s vote share had increased significantly. “This is a good sign for the party that the Aam Aadmi Party will be even stronger in the urban areas by 2022,” he added.
Cheema thanked the voters of Punjab for giving a chance to the AAP candidates to serve. He said that the winning councilors would serve the people of their ward as a ‘sewadar’. He further said that the results of the elections were a positive sign for the forthcoming assembly elections in 2022. Cheema said that the results of the local bodies’ elections showed that the Aam Aadmi Party would win the forthcoming assembly elections by a landslide victory. He said that the party must have had some shortcomings in contesting the local body elections for the first time. “These shortcomings will be rectified after self-assessment. The work would be done to strengthen the party before the forthcoming assembly elections,” added Cheema.
He said that the election results for the party were encouraging to the party leaders, workers and sympathizers that now the party had become stronger in rural as well as urban areas. The AAP leader said that in future the youth would also be mobilised by strengthening the party units in the urban areas. He said that before the assembly elections, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had made many promises to the people of Punjab which were not fulfilled by the Captain government. “The white record of the false promises made by Captain will now be opened to the people of Punjab. Captain Amarinder Singh had promised to provide Ghar-Ghar Rozgar, which was not fulfilled,” he added.
Cheema said that the farmers of Punjab were being persecuted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dictatorial attitude. He said that for the last several months, the farmers of Punjab had been agitating on the roads day and night, but instead of acceding to their demands, the Modi government was playing clumsy tricks to discredit the farmers. Cheema said that the Aam Aadmi Party would fight for the rights of the people against the anti-people decisions being taken by the Modi-led central government and Captain Amarinder Singh’s government in Punjab. He said that in future the party would be strengthened at all levels.
