CM Inaugurates Rs. 47.36 Cr Sanjauli-Dhalli Tunnel
Critical Relief for Commuters: Sanjauli-Dhalli Tunnel Inaugurated by Chief Minister to Ease Traffic Congestion on Shimla's Circular Road
Shimla, December 25, 2023 –CM Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the newly constructed Rs. 47.36 crore Sanjauli-Dhalli tunnel spanning 154.22 meters in Shimla town today. On the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasised the significance of timely project completion and its positive impact on the state’s development.
“The progress of this tunnel was going at snail’s pace during the previous BJP government, but the present State government expedited its construction work due to which it has been completed within one year,” stated the Chief Minister. “The State government has directed all departments to adhere to time-bound completion of each project, as the government aims to maximise benefits for the people of the state at the earliest.”
The newly inaugurated tunnel is positioned to alleviate persistent traffic congestion on Shimla’s circular road, particularly caused by the aging Dhalli Tunnel, which had surpassed its design life. The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of the project in promoting tourism, a key industry in Himachal Pradesh.
“Tourism stands to benefit significantly from the improved connectivity. The tunnel, strategically positioned on the route to popular destinations like Kufri, Naldehra, Tattapani, Narkanda, and Chail, will ease the movement of tourists and contribute to the region’s economic growth,” said Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. “The State government is committed to modernizing its infrastructure, promoting tourism, and addressing the needs of both residents and visitors.”
cm of himachal pradesh also emphasised that the new tunnel is a viable and sustainable solution to reduce congestion on Shim la’s circular road. Beyond its infrastructural advantages, the project is expected to generate local employment opportunities and foster increased social interaction in the region. The Chief Minister also announced the renovation of the old tunnel.
Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Principal Advisor (Media) to Chief Minister Naresh Chauhan, MLA Harish Janartha, and Mayor Shimla Surender Chauhan were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
