Severe Rainfall Causes ₹340 Crore Loss in Una District; Administration Ensures All Possible Support to Affected FamiliesUna, 17 September: Heavy rainfall and landslides during this monsoon season have caused an estimated loss of ₹340 crore in Una district. Deputy Commissioner Una, Jatin Lal, IAS informed that the Public Works Department has suffered damages worth ₹191 crore, while the Jal Shakti Department and the Swaan New Flood Management Project have incurred losses of around ₹125 crore. Other departments and private properties have also been severely affected, impacting numerous families.The Deputy Commissioner stated that as per the directions of Chief Minister Shri Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, every possible assistance is being provided to affected families. The administration is working with full commitment and urgency in relief and restoration efforts.The information was shared by DC Una following an online disaster review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister from Shimla. During the meeting, CM Sukhu directed Deputy Commissioners to personally visit affected areas and expedite on-ground relief and rehabilitation work. He also emphasized maximizing the benefit of the government’s monthly rent support scheme for families rendered homeless by the disaster.Currently, under the special relief package announced by the Himachal government, families displaced by the disaster are being provided a monthly rent allowance of ₹10,000 in urban areas and ₹5,000 in rural areas. The government is also considering relaxing eligibility criteria to ensure more families can benefit.So far, 24 permanent houses and 81 temporary structures have been completely destroyed, while 381 permanent and 543 temporary houses have sustained partial damage. Additionally, 35 shops and 503 cattle sheds have been affected. Most roads have been restored, though large-scale landslides in parts of the Bangana area are still obstructing access, and restoration work is being carried out at full speed.The administration remains dedicated to ensuring relief reaches every affected household and rebuilding efforts continue without delay.#DCUNA #JATINLAL #IAS
