BJP councillors disrupt F&CC elections for about 2 hours

Chandigarh, March 11, 2024: City residents have a reason to cheer as the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Municipal Corporation today gave its nod to 20,000 litres of water and free parking. In a story meeting, BJP councillors today disrupted the house meeting and marshals had to be called to handle the situation.

The agenda was brought up by the India Alliance under which 20,000 litres of free water will be given to every house in Chandigarh and along with this, parking will also be made free in the city.

Mayor Kuldeep Kumar further said that in the F&CC (Finance and Contract Committee) elections in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, three members of India Alliance councillors Jaswinder Kaur, Ramchandra Yadav and Taruna Mehta have been elected.

Just before the F&CC elections, the time of the Municipal Corporation was wasted by the BJP councillors by asking all kinds of wrong questions to the Municipal Corporation officials and the voting process was not allowed to start for a long time. Finally, when the voting process was started, BJP withdrew the name of its councillor Jasmanpreet Singh from the election process due to fear of defeat and the remaining members were elected without voting.

On this occasion, he also congratulated the newly elected members.

The fifth agenda was to extend the contract period of ABC centers in Sector 38 and Raipur Kalan and increase their capacity, this agenda was also passed by the House. The sixth agenda was to hire 50 tractor trolleys to remove tree litter from the roads, which was passed.

The seventh agenda was to declare Chandigarh as a 7-star garbage free city as per the protocol laid down by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which was passed with the consent of all the councillors. Under this, the city has to be made garbage free in a better way. In which work is to be done on different 24 main points including door to door collection, geo-mapping of wards like ward boundaries, drains, water bodies, waste processing, waste processing facilities, landfills, dumpsites, sanitation and domestic hazardous waste. Processing and dry waste, sale of waste-waste by-products, scientific landfill, grievance redressal, plastic ban etc. are to be worked upon.
