CM Facilitates Consensus: GOI, Farmers Reach Agreement
CM strongly presents the case of farmers before the Union government
Chandigarh, February 8- Due to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s intervention, the Union government and farmers reached a consensus on various issues during their initial deliberations. This marked a significant step forward in addressing the concerns raised by farmers.
Attendance at the Meeting:
Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda, and Nityanand, along with the Chief Minister and representatives of various farmers’ unions, attended the meeting held at the MGSIPA complex.
Consensus on Rolling Back Cases:
During the initial round of discussions, a general consensus surfaced regarding rolling back the cases registered against farmers during the agitation against draconian laws, as highlighted by the Chief Minister.
Deliberations and Approvals:
The deliberations occurred in a congenial atmosphere, with Union Ministers giving their in-principle approval to consider the demands of the farmers sympathetically. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized seeking exemplary punishment against the manufacturers of spurious seeds and vehemently raised the issue of paddy straw burning.
Support for Continuing MSP:
The Chief Minister strongly advocated for continuing the MSP regime, emphasizing its necessity to secure the interests of farmers and dismissing claims of discontinuing MSP as imagination.
Push for Crop Diversification:
Highlighting the need for crop diversification, the Chief Minister emphasized the benefits of producing pulses domestically to save foreign reserves and conserve water resources.
Thankfulness and Hope for Future Discussions:
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann thanked the Union government and farmer for engaging in discussions and expressed hope for more such discussions in the future for the larger interests of farmers and the people.
