
Water Treatment Plant Worth ₹1550 Crore to Provide Clean Canal Water to Ludhiana Residents: Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh
Chandigarh, February 19 : Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh reviewed a Water Treatment Plant Project today. The project aims to ensure the supply of clean canal water to the residents of Ludhiana. The World Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the Punjab Government jointly initiated it. Minister held a special meeting with company representatives. He also met with department officials at Municipal Bhavan. He directed them to expedite the project’s progress.
Dr. Ravjot Singh stated that work on the Water Treatment Plant worth ₹1550 crore has already commenced. The plan is to complete the project within three years. Upon completion, lakhs of Ludhiana residents will receive clean canal water.
He explained that they will bring water from the Sirhind Canal to the treatment plant.
It will be purified. Then, the system will supply it to households through water supply pipelines.
The minister highlighted that the project is a collaborative effort. Thirty-five percent of the funding is provided by the World Bank. Another 35% is funded by AIIB. The remaining 30% comes from the Punjab Government.
He gave directions to the officials of the company responsible for the Water Treatment Plant. He instructed them to immediately clear roads where pipelines are being laid.This is to prevent any inconvenience to city residents. Minister also emphasized that the team should accelerate work and submit regular progress reports to the department.
The meeting was attended by several key individuals. CEO of the Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC) was Dipti Uppal. Ludhiana Municipal Commissioner was Aditya Dachalwal. GM Projects was Har Satinder Pal Singh Dhillon. Chief Engineer was Ravinder Garg. SE Project was Parul Goel. PMIDC Consultant was Sonia Gupta.
