New Delhi – In a significant escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Armed Forces have confirmed a strong military responsefollowing Pakistan’s attempted drone and missile strikes across Northern and Western India during the night of 07–08 May 2025.
During a press briefing on 07 May, Indian officials had described Operation SINDOOR as a focused, measured, and non-escalatory response. It was clearly stated that India had not targeted Pakistani military establishments. Any provocation on Indian military targets would be met with a suitable retaliation.
India Responds After Pakistani Drone Assault on Military Bases
However, in the early hours of 08 May, Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks on several Indian military installations. These attacks targeted regions including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. The attacks were effectively neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence Systems. Authorities confirmed that debris from downed drones and missiles has been recovered, serving as proof of Pakistani aggression.
In response, the Indian Armed Forces conducted precision strikes targeting Pakistani Air Defence Radars and systems at multiple locations. It has been reliably confirmed that an Air Defence system in Lahore was neutralised during the operation.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has also intensified unprovoked cross-border firing across the Line of Control (LoC). Using mortars and heavy artillery, Pakistani forces targeted civilian areas in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.
Tragically, these attacks have claimed the lives of 16 civilians, including three women and five children. In response, India was compelled to return fire, targeting Pakistani artillery positions to halt the ongoing shelling.
The Indian Armed Forces reiterated their commitment to non-escalation, but emphasized that this principle must be equally respected by the Pakistani military. The current situation remains tense, with both nations on high alert.
