S.A.S. Nagar ( Mohali / Chandigarh), May 07, : During the ongoing Rabi season 2024-25, Punjab mandis have nearly reached 100 percent wheat procurement, with plans to expedite further procurement. Harchand Singh Barsat, Chairman of Punjab Mandi Board, expressed this during a review of the ongoing procurement works in mandis.

During the Rabi season 2024-25, Punjab’s mandis received 123.81 lakh metric tons of wheat, procuring 123.26 lakh metric tons. They released ₹25,387.8 crore to farmers out of a ₹30,077 crore cash credit limit. The Chairman of Punjab Mandi Board emphasized the board’s focus on ensuring ample procurement arrangements in mandis. They prioritize the convenience of farmers, traders, and laborers.As a result, the board is smoothly carrying out wheat procurement works in mandis without causing any inconvenience to farmers.
Barsat mentioned that the Punjab Mandi Board has formed teams of officials to conduct regular inspections in mandis. The Punjab government emphasized its steadfast support for farmers and its commitment to their welfare and betterment.

He further stated that officials and employees of Punjab Mandi Board and market committees have worked tirelessly round the clock. This enabled the efficient execution of such a large-scale operation in a very short span of time.This ensures convenience for farmers, laborers, and traders without encountering any difficulties.
Barsat expressed gratitude to various departments of the Punjab government. These include Punsup, Markfed, Pungrain, and Warehouses. Their cooperation has been instrumental in completing this task.He thanked to all, attributing the success to divine grace and the favorable weather provided by the Almighty.
Barsat provided additional details, stating that the Punjab Mandi Board has received 123.81 lakh metric tons of wheat. This wheat was collected from 1907 designated mandis and 826 temporary procurement centers.. Government agencies procured 116.46 lakh metric tons out of this amount, while private entities procured 6.80 lakh metric tons. Additionally, mandis have lifted 74.17 lakh metric tons of wheat up to now. Yesterday, mandis received 1.80 lakh metric tons of wheat, of which 1.98 lakh metric tons were procured.
Sangrur district in Punjab has recorded the highest wheat arrival and procurement, totaling 11,98,029 metric tons across government and private sectors. Following Sangrur, Patiala saw 9,25,382 metric tons procured, and Ferozepur reported 8,47,242 metric tons.
