Welfare Projects for Scheduled Castes Near Completion: Dr. Kaur

Bathinda, Faridkot, Kapurthala, Ludhiana and Moga Districts Sanctioned for Completion of Ongoing Projects

Pb Government’s Commitment to Scheduled Castes Welfare

Chandigarh, July 1 The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is actively working towards the welfare of Scheduled Castes. The state government has issued a sanction to incur the remaining funds for various ongoing projects aimed at their welfare for the current financial year 2024-25.

Sanctions Rs 7.69 Crore for Scheduled Castes Development Projects

Dr. Baljit Kaur, the Minister of Social Justice and Minorities, revealed this during a press release. Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that the central government approved the action plan for Punjab for the year 2022-23 under the grant-in-aid component of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana.In 2023-24, a total of Rs 17.24 crore sanctioned facilitated the completion of both district-level and state-level projects.

Allocation and Expenditure Breakdown

Dr. Baljit  Kaur explained that the sanctioned Rs 17.24 crore had been drawing limit fixed during 2023-24.

Dr. Baljit  Kaur elaborated that out of the sanctioned Rs 17.24 crore, Rs 1.69 crore had been allocated for development projects in Bathinda. They spent Rs 0.84 crore during the last financial year, and they have now approved spending the remaining Rs 0.85 crore in the current year 2024-25.

The minister sanctioned Rs 0.61 crore for ongoing development projects in Faridkot district. They spent Rs 0.16 crore last financial year, with Rs 0.45 crore approved for this year’s expenditure.

Kapurthala district allocated Rs 1.29 crore, spending Rs 0.20 crore last year, and sanctioning Rs 1.09 crore for this year.Ludhiana district sanctioned Rs 2.30 crore, spending Rs 0.66 crore last year, leaving Rs 1.64 crore available for this year. Moga district allocated Rs 1.32 crore, spent Rs 0.34 crore last year, and sanctioned Rs 0.98 crore for this year’s expenditure.

State-Level Projects

Dr. Baljit Kaur further mentioned that state-level projects have allocated Rs 8.28 crore, of which Rs 5.59 crore has been spent, leaving Rs 2.69 crore available for the current financial year.  The district-level implementing agencies will upload the progress of the projects and details of the beneficiaries on the web portal pmajay.dosje.gov.in.

Ensuring Timely Completion and Accountability

The Minister emphasised  that the Punjab government has issued the necessary letter regarding the expenditure limits for the completion of both state-level and district-level projects. She instructed concerned authorities to ensure the completion of these projects within the stipulated time frame. Any irregularities found during the completion of these projects will attract strict action against those responsible.
