Vigilance Bureau nabs Sub Fire Officer for accepting bribe of Rs 12,500

  • Accused officer already took Rs.1,70,000 in lieu of providing a job in Fire Dept

Chandigarh, July 4:

          Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday nabbed a Sub Fire Officer Rana Narinder Singh posted at Malerkotla for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.12,500 from a resident of village Sherpur in Sangrur district.

          Divulging the details here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said that the Sub Fire Officer has been arrested on the complaint of Lovely Singh resident of village Sherpur.

          He further informed that the complainant has approached the Police Station VB, Patiala Range and lodged a complaint that the accused officer had already taken a bribe of Rs. 1,70,000 in lieu of providing him a job in the Fire department. Now, he has demanded Rs. 12,500 to get the police verification complainant done.

          The spokesperson informed that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, a team of VB, Patiala Range laid a trap and arrested the accused Sub Fire Officer red handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 12,500 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

          In this regard, a case under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused Sub Fire Officer at Police Station VB, Patiala Range. Further investigations in this case are under progress.
