Vigilance Bureau nabs Patwari for taking Rs 4,000 bribe

Chandigarh March 19 : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its anti-corruption campaign, apprehended revenue Patwari Baljit Singh, stationed at Phool, Bathinda district, red-handed on Tuesday for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000.

Today, a spokesperson of the VB disclosed that they registered the case against the aforementioned revenue official following a complaint by Iqbal Singh, a resident of village Pitho in Bathinda district. Providing details, he stated that the complainant approached the VB, alleging that the Patwari had demanded Rs 10,000 as a bribe for registering the ‘virasat intqal’ (Mutation) of his ancestral land, but they settled the deal at Rs 6,000.. The complainant further alleged that the Patwari had already taken Rs 2,000 and was demanding the remaining balance of the bribe, Rs 4,000.

The spokesperson further added that after a preliminary investigation of this complaint, a VB team laid a trap, resulting in the arrest of the accused Patwari red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

In this regard, the VB police station in Bathinda range has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the aforementioned revenue official. “He will appear in the competent court tomorrow.” Further investigation in this case is underway, he informed.
