Vigilance Bureau nabs Head Constable for taking Rs 5000 bribe

Accused police official already taken Rs 30,000 bribe

Chandigarh January 18 –

          The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state on Thursday arrested Mandeep Singh,  Moharrir Head Constable (MHC) of Police Post Kailash Nagar, police station division no 8, Ludhiana for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.

          Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB informed that the accused police official, deployed as ‘Thana Munshi’ has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Mahidev Parsad, a resident of Rajan Estate, Joginder Nagar, Haibowal Ludhiana.

          He further added that the complainant has approached the VB Range Ludhiana and got recorded his statement that he is doing hosiery work and his factory is situated at first floor of building near Handa Hospital and the said premises were taken on rent from Satinderpal Singh 3 years ago.

          He further informed that his landlord has lodged a complainant against him in the above said police station regarding some payment issue. The complainant alleged that the above said ‘Munshi’ Mandeep Singh had already taken bribe amount of Rs 30,000 from him in installments on the name of Incharge police post and other police officers for taking action on his complaint.

          The complainant recorded in his statement that out of said amount, Mandeep Singh MHC had received Rs 5,500 in his account through Google Pay and now he was demanding more bribe of Rs 5,000 from him for taking action on this complaint.

          The spokesperson informed that after preliminary investigation of this complaint the VB range Ludhiana laid a trap and the accused police official has been arrested in the police post while receiving the bribe money of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused MHC at VB police station Ludhiana range. He added that role of incharge police post would also be examined during the probe.

          Accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow, he said.
