Vigilance Bureau nabs Constable while accepting bribe of Rs 10K; Sub Inspector, Journalist also booked

Amidst its ongoing campaign against corruption in the State, Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday nabbed a Constable, Karambir Singh, posted at Cyber Cell, Patiala while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. In this case, a Sub Inspector and a Journalist have also been booked.
The action has been taken on the complaint of Pardeep Singh resident of Patiala.
Disclosing the details here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said that Pardeep Singh had approached the Police Station VB, Patiala and lodged a complaint that he (Pardeep) and his wife was having a dispute, inquiry of which was marked to Sub Inspector (SI) Pritpal Singh, Incharge of Cyber Cell Patiala. According to the complainant, he met Pritpal Singh through a mediator Press Reporter S.S Malhotra. SI Pritpal told him to approach the Constable Karambir Singh, who is posted with him, he will do the needful. Afterwards, when the complainant met Karambir Singh, he demanded Rs 20,000 in lieu of a favourable report.
After preliminary investigation, the spokesperson said that a team of VB laid a trap and arrested the Constable Karambir Singh while accepting the first instalment of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of official witnesses.
In this regard, an FIR has been registered against SI Pritpal Singh, Constable Karambir Singh and Reporter Malhotra at Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Patiala and further investigation is in progress.
