Vigilance Bureau arrests PSPCL Lineman, ex-Sarpanch accepting Rs 12000 bribe for installation of electricity meter
Chandigarh May 20, 2024 –
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state on Monday has arrested Manjinder Singh alias Raju, Lineman, posted at PSPCL office, Khanna -2 and Paramjit Singh, ex Sarpanch of village Dulwan, in block Kheri Naud Singh, Fatehgarh Sahib district for accepting Rs 12000 bribe.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said this case has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Assistant Sub Inspector of police (Retired) Balwinder Singh, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar colony, Khanna on the chief minister anti-corruption action line.
He further added that the complainant has alleged in his complaint that he had applied for installation of a new electricity meter for his new plot but above mentioned Lineman of the area, Manjinder Singh, had demanded Rs 15000 through said ex-Sarpanch Paramjit Singh and the deal has been struck at Rs 12000.
The complainant further informed that the accused Lineman has already taken Rs 2500 on 18-04-2024 in the presence of Paramjit Singh and remaining amount of Rs 9500 was given to Paramjit Singh in his office at Khanna on 19.04.24. The complainant also made their call recordings while asking for bribe and filed the said complaint.
The spokesperson informed that during verification of this complaint the facts have been found correct and accordingly an FIR No 21 dated 20.05.24 under sections 7, 7-A of Prevention of Corruption Act and 120-B of IPC has been registered against accused Manjinder Singh Lineman and Paramjit Singh ex-Sarpanch at VB police station Ludhiana range.
Both the above said accused have been arrested and bribe amount of Rs 12000 has also been recovered. He added that the role of concerned junior engineer would also be examined during further investigation of this case. Both the accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow, he added.
