Vigilance Bureau arrests Police Head Constable for accepting Rs 5,000 bribe
Accused previously received Rs 8,000 for helping in stolen phone case
Chandigarh, October 2, 2024 –
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing crackdown on corruption, has arrested Muharrar Head Constable (MHC) Satnam Singh, posted as Munshi at the CIA Staff in Sri Muktsar Sahib, red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
An official spokesperson of the VB revealed that the arrest was made following a complaint by Parveen Kaur, a resident of Sri Muktsar Sahib. According to the complaint, MHC Satnam Singh had threatened that her son is using a stolen mobile phone and demanded Rs 50,000 to settle the matter. Although she had handed over a bill and box of the phone purchased by her son to the said MHC, despite the police personnel had taken Rs 8,000 from the complainant and further demanding Rs 5,000 for not involving her son in this stolen phone case.
The said complainant, had recorded the police official’s conversation for demanding the bribe and approached the VB for assistance.
The spokesperson informed that after verifying the complaint through a preliminary inquiry, the VB laid a trap and apprehended MHC Satnam Singh red-handed while he was accepting the second instalment of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard a case has been registered against the accused police personnel under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station, Bathinda range. Further investigations into this case was under progress, he said.
