Previously taken Rs 30,000 for favour in matrimonial dispute

 

Chandigarh August 01, 2024  ( Mohit Sharma ) : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state on Thursday has arrested Nirdosh Kaur, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Women Cell Ludhiana and her Reader Beant Singh while attempting to take Rs 30,000 as a bribe.

 

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said both the police personnel have been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Pritpal Kumar, a resident of village Goudha, in Bathinda district.

 

He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and got recorded his statement that five years ago his maternal nephew Ashwani Kumar got solemnised marriage with a girl belonging to Ludhiana city. After marriage relations of both became strained and his wife had moved complaint against him at Women Cell Ludhiana.

 

The complainant further alleged that during enquiry proceedings of this complaint, above said accused Beant Singh, Reader, had introduced him with women ACP. “After this meeting, the Reader told the complainant that if he wanted to get the complaint against Ashwani Kumar filed, then he has to give bribe of Rs one lakh but on repeated requests of complainant, the Reader agreed to get the work done by taking bribe amount of Rs 60,000”, he added.

 

The complainant further alleged that on 29.07.2024, the said Reader, had taken Rs 30,000 in the presence of ACP as a first instalment and asked to pay the remaining amount on 01.08.2024. The complainant has got recorded the demand and acceptance of said bribe money of Rs 30,000 by the Reader and ACP which was handed over to the VB as an evidence.

 

The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary enquiry of this complaint the VB police station, Ludhiana range has registered a FIR No 28 dated 1.08.2024 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act and 61(2) of BNS Act against both the accused. Subsequently, a trap was laid by VB team in which both the accused have been arrested while attempting to take second instalment of bribe money of Rs 30,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard further investigation into this case was under and accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow, he said.
