VB registers corruption case against Police Sub Inspector for accepting Rs 5000 bribe
Accused personnel demanding Rs 15,000 more as bribe
Chandigarh August 2, 2024 –
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state has registered a corruption case against a Sub-Inspector (SI) of Punjab Police, Gurtej Singh, posted at police station Boha, district Mansa for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said this above mentioned police official has been booked based on a complaint lodged by Parvinder Singh, a resident of village Sherkhan Wala, in Mansa district on the Chief Minister’s Anti Corruption Action Line.
He further informed that the complainant has alleged in his complaint that a case was registered against his relatives at police station Boha and above said Sub Inspector has demanded illegal gratification of Rs 40,000 for helping the accused while demanding his police remand. He further informed that upon his repeated requests the police personnel agreed to take Rs 20,000 as bribe and had taken Rs 5,000 as a first instalment. The complainant has recorded the conversation with the police official while demanding and taking the bribe money.
The spokesperson added that during verification, the allegations levelled in the said complaint have been found correct as the same have been supported by oral evidence as well as video recording of occurrence and allegations of demanding Rs 20,000 and taking Rs 5000 bribe has been proved.
He further informed that on the basis of this investigation report a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the said Sub Inspector at VB police station Bathinda range. Further investigation into this case was under progress.
