VB nabs ASI for taking Rs 20,000 bribe to submit challan in court
Chandigarh March 20 : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau during its drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Darshan Singh, posted at police station Sherpur, Sangrur district while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
Today, the state VB’s official spokesperson revealed the arrest of the mentioned police personnel following a complaint by Binder Singh from village Herike, Sangrur. Binder Singh alleged that the ASI demanded a Rs 20,000 bribe from his friend Gurjot Singh and his mother Karamjit Kaur, both residents of the same village implicated in a police case at Sherpur police station.
The complainant further alleged that the accused police personnel had already taken bribes on different occasions in lieu of presenting supplementary challan to the court in their case and now demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant.
The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary investigation of this complaint the a VB team has laid a trap and arrested ASI Darshan Singh red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.He said that VB police station Patiala range has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act in this regard and is currently progressing with further investigation into the matter.
