VB Arrests Wakf Board Executive Officer for Rs 15,000 Bribe

Chandigarh March 20 : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign, on Wednesday nabbed Layak Ahmed, Executive Officer, Punjab Wakf Board, posted at Bathinda red handed for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.

Today, a spokesperson of the VB revealed that they registered the case against the aforementioned official based on a complaint filed by Narinder Kumar Monga, a resident of Gidderbaha in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, who now resides in Dhakoli, Zirakpur.

          Giving details he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said Wakf Board official has demanded Rs 50,000 as a bribe in lieu of providing land on lease in Bathinda and agreed to take Rs 20,000 as advance money besides two blank cheques from the complainant.

      After a preliminary investigation of the complaint, a VB team laid a trap and arrested the said accused red-handed while accepting the first installment of a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The VB team also recovered two blank cheques from him, which he had taken from the complainant.

In this regard, the VB police station in Bathinda range has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the aforementioned revenue official.”He will appear before the competent court tomorrow.” He informed that further investigation in this case was in progress.
