VB arrests private person for taking Rs 30,000 bribe for MC officials

Chandigarh February 21 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Amardeep Singh Bangar, a resident of Amarpura, Ludhiana city, and operating his office at Jagjit Nagar, Ludhiana, for accepting a bribe of Rs. 30,000 under the guise of Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana officials.

Complaint and Arrest Disclosure

An official spokesperson of the state VB disclosed the arrest following an online complaint lodged at the Chief Minister Anti Corruption Action Line by Naresh Kumar, a resident of Preet Nagar, Shimlapuri, Ludhiana.

Allegations and NOC Requirement

The complainant accused Amardeep Singh Bangar of obtaining Rs. 30,000 for acquiring a no objection certificate (NOC) from the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana. Verification revealed that Madan Lal, the complainant’s father, required the NOC for selling his house purchased in 2022.

Further Allegations and Payment

Furthermore, the complainant alleged that Amardeep Singh Bangar claimed to work in the Patwarkhana (Revenue office) at Gill village and asserted that he could expedite the issuance of the NOC by paying a bribe of Rs. 30,000.

 Failed Transaction and Cheque Issue

The complainant paid Rs. 30,000 to Amardeep Singh Bangar, who later provided a cheque of Rs. 40,000. However, the cheque could not be processed due to mismatched signatures.

 Substantiated Allegations and Legal Action

The investigation substantiated the complainant’s allegations, leading to the filing of a case under 7-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 420 of the IPC against Amardeep Singh Bangar. Further investigation is ongoing to verify the role of MC officials in the matter.
