Phillaur (Jalandhar), February 28- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday emphasised that to provide efficient, responsive, and effective policing, the state government is upgrading the Punjab Police on MODERN lines.

Addressing the gathering before flagging off the 410 new vehicles, the Chief Minister announced a significant change: the SHOs would receive new vehicles for the first time. He underscored a shift from the previous practice of allocating new vehicles to top officers, highlighting the importance of empowering those at the grassroots level. Bhagwant Singh Mann highlighted that the SHOs directly connect with the people, representing the real face of the Punjab police.

Launch of Sadak Surakhya Force

The Chief Minister said that to check the fatality rate due to road accidents in the state on one hand and to streamline the movement of traffic on the roads of the state on the other, the state government has launched  Sadak Surakhya Force. He highlighted that the first-of-its-kind specialized force is pivotal in saving numerous precious lives lost daily in road accidents in Punjab.

Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the government initially deployed 129 vehicles equipped with ultra-modern gadgets every 30 kilometers to monitor the roads. This force has been entrusted with the task of checking rash driving, streamlining vehicular movement on roads, and implementing other measures to prevent road accidents.  . These vehicles will also carry a complete medical kit for providing emergency treatment to anyone in need.

 Success of Sadak Surakhya Force

The Chief Minister expressed immense pride and satisfaction that the Sadak Surakhya Force has played a crucial role in reducing the death rate. Contrary to the previous average of 17 deaths per day, only 13 deaths have been reported in the last 15 days. He emphasized that these are preliminary results and anticipated further reductions in the future.  . Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Sadak Surakhya Force will be instrumental in reducing the burden from the district Police and improve their efficiency.

 Addressing Security Challenges

The Chief Minister said that being a border state a number of forces inimical to state have been chalking out nefarious designs to disturb hard earned peace of state but the Punjab Police has always foiled such attempts. He emphasized that to further overcome major challenges faced by the state, it is imperative to update the Police force according to advanced requirements in the fields of investigation, science, and technology. Bhagwant Singh Mann declared the Punjab government’s commitment to upgrading and modernizing the state Police on scientific lines, asserting that the Punjab Police will uphold its glorious legacy of selfless service to the nation in the coming times too.

Initiatives for Women’s Safety

The Chief Minister announced the establishment of eight exclusive police stations for the safety and security of women as part of women empowerment initiatives. He noted that several districts of the state have female officers serving as Senior Superintendent of Police, and more than 10 districts have lady Deputy Commissioners. Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized that the state is making concerted efforts for the welfare of girls, and these initiatives are yielding desired results.

 Recruitment Drive

The Chief Minister said that the Punjab government has taken several path breaking initiatives for welfare of the people. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that 90% households are now getting free power, more than 40,000 youth have got government jobs, health and education facilities are being provided to people. He stated that all these initiatives aim at the well-being of the common man, leaving no stone unturned for it.

The Chief Minister said that the state government has already decided to recruit 1800 Constables and 300 Sub Inspectors every year in Punjab Police for the coming four years to overcome the scarcity of cops. He said that as for these 2100 posts every year around 2.50 lakh candidates are expected to apply for these posts so all the aspirants will get involved in academics as well as in improving their physique for clearing the tests. Bhagwant Mann said that this is helping in channelizing their unbounded energy in a positive direction and help them in weaning away from the menace of drugs.

Commitment to Drug-Free Punjab

The Chief Minister said that Punjab will be a drug free state soon as the state government has launched a major crackdown to snap the supply line of drugs. He unequivocally stated that the government will not spare drug peddlers at any cost but will make every effort to rehabilitate drug addicts. Bhagwant Singh Mann declared that the Punjab Police are committed to achieving the goal of making the state completely drug-free, and they are making concerted efforts to accomplish this objective.
