TRANSPORT MINISTER INSTRUCTS SECRETARY RTAS AND SDMS TO INITIATE INTENSIVE DRIVE AGAINST TRAFFIC VIOLATORS, ISSUES LETTER
SCHOOL MANAGEMENTS ASKED TO IMPLEMENT ‘SAFE SCHOOL VAHAN SCHEME’ IN TOTO

Punjab Transport Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar, on Saturday, instructed all the Secretaries RTAs and SDMs to initiate an intensive joint checking drive for ensuring that every traffic violator dealt sternly. In a letter to Secretaries RTAs and SDMs, the Cabinet Minister said that the government has taken serious note of the orders and directions issued by the hon’ble courts time to time, which requires intensive traffic checking.
In view of the commencement of the new academic session in the schools and to make sure the safety of the students, the Transport Minister also instructed the school managements to fully implement the “Safe School Vahan Scheme” in their schools, adding that procrastination with the safety of students will not be tolerated at any cost.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet Minister instructed the Secretaries RTAs and SDMs that traffic checking should be speeded up to ensure strict compliance of the road safety guidelines issued from time to time by the Committee on Road Safety constituted by the Hon’ble Supreme Court.
“Under the Safe School Vahan scheme of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led government, school buses must be checked”, said the Transport Minister, while adding that this is a serious issue and the safety of students traveling in school buses is the collective responsibility of the concerned departments.
The letter reads the Secretaries, Regional Transport Authority should coordinate with the SDMs under their jurisdiction to prepare the required schedule and initiate joint checking campaign at the earliest.
Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has made it clear that this issue will be considered in the state-level meeting of regional officers to be held shortly and the action taken by the concerned officials will be reviewed by him personally.
