Step towards building Skill University; Construction of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Skill Institute at Sri Chamkaur Sahib starts
First phase would be constructed on 42 acres land with Rs. 97 Crore
University to help in honing skills of youth to make them employable as per demands of industrial sector

The Skill University at Sri Chamkaur Sahib, the ambitious project of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is soon going to be a reality.
Disclosing this here today in a press communique, the Punjab Technical Education and Employment Generation Minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi said that under the first phase of this project the construction work of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Skill Institute has commenced at Sri Chamkaur Sahib yesterday after performing religious prayers.
The Minister also said that this is the first step towards setting up a world class skill university to hone the skills of the youth of Punjab and make them employable as per the demands of the global industry.
The Minister further said that the total cost of construction work of first phase of the Skill Institute is Rs. 97 crore which stands allotted. “The funds will be provided by I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University under the ambit of Department of Technical Education”, said Mr. Channi adding that the work is being executed through Punjab Public Works Department and the first phase of the would be constructed on the 42 acres land.
Divulging further, Mr. Channi said that he is hopeful that development of this Skill Institute, which is destined to be converted into a world class Skill University, would give an unimaginable opportunities to the youth of this region especially those hailing from the historic town of Sri Chamkaur Sahib, to enhance their skills thereby maximizing their chances of employability in today’s Information Technology oriented job scenario.
The Project Incharge Sub Divisional Officer Rajeev Arora briefed that the total covered area under phase-1 would be 4.23 lacs square feet and it would comprise of various blocks viz Academic, Engineering, Pharmacy, IT and Shared Resources. Besides, it would also have Auditorium, Library, Sports Stadium, Shops, Workshop, etc.
