STATE LEVEL REPUBLIC DAY FUNCTION HELD AT MOHALI
GOVERNOR OF PUNJAB SHRI BANWARI LAL PUROHIT UNFURLS THE NATIONAL TRICOLOR

SAS Nagar/Chandigarh, January 26:
A state level function was held at Mohali on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day. The Governor Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh Mr. Banwari Lal Purohit unfurled the national tricolor. In his address at this occasion he congratulated all the citizens and called upon them to take an oath to follow the basic tenets of the Constitution. He said that the country will continue to march towards progress only by following the principles of the Constitution.
He said that the contribution of Punjab in the work of nation building is very important. Countless times Punjab was wounded by invaders but every time the brave sons of Punjab protected the country; That is why the whole country believes in Punjab’s spirit. He further said that Punjab is the land of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the land of saints, pirs and prophets, this is the land of heroes like Lala Lajpat Rai, Sardar Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev. That is why our responsibility towards the Constitution increases because none of our actions should ever insult these great personalities.
The Governor said that the country is currently celebrating 75 years of independence. We have to mobilize with new energy to fulfill the dream of modern India that our freedom fighters had dreamed of. He said that this Republic Day, which came in the 75th year of independence, has brought an opportunity for new resolutions for us.
Mr. Purohit said that in 2047, when the country will celebrate 100 years of its independence, then the height at which it will be, will be decided by our hard work today and our decisions today. He said that in the midst of efforts being made for a new India, today is the time for all of us to start working on new resolutions for India of 2047. He said that the grand building of India of 2047 will stand on the foundation we will build today.
The Governor praised various departments, universities, school-colleges and people associated with the art world for celebrating the ‘Amrit Maha Utsav’ of freedom in the state and said that today we have to achieve development by adopting the mantra of ‘Virasat Bhi’ and ‘Vikas Bhi’.
He further said that we have to accept that there are many challenges before the country today. There are many difficulties in running our welfare state system. It is necessary for us to be alert even on the borders of the country. That’s why we have to overcome every challenge together.
Mr.Purohit appealed to live above personal selfishness to build a good society and asked the people to remain committed to end corruption.
He praised the state and the countrymen for bravely and successfully combating the surge of COVID-19 and said that we fought the disease, faced economic challenges, broke the mountain of calamities on our farmers, labourers, industrial workers but again no one lost his courage either. This is our specialty. He also appreciated the efforts being made for the COVID vaccination and appealed to the public to get the vaccination voluntarily. He said that this will prove to be our armor in the battle of COVID.
Earlier, the Governor took salute from the march past led by ASP Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia and Assistant Parade Commander DSP Major Sumer Singh . The contingents who took part in the march past included Punjab Police (PRTC Jahankhelan), District Police S.A.S. Nagar, Chandigarh police (UT) , Uttarakhand Police, Guardian of Governance (Guard of Prosperity) Ex-Servicemen, NCC Wing (Government College Mohali), PAP Jalandhar Brans Band, PAP Jalandhar Pipe Band, National Anthem was sung by the children of Government Model Senior Secondary School 3B1 Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar. Special honours were also accorded to the officers and staff who performed well during the Corona epidemic.
Prominent amongst those who were present at the occasion included Chief Secretary Mr. Anirudh Tewari ,DGP Punjab Mr. Viresh Kumar Bhawra, Divisional Commissioner Rupnagar. Manvesh Singh Sidhu, IG Mr. A.K. Mittal, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Isha Kalia, SSP Mr. Harjit Singh, Judiciary and senior officers of the Army and other dignitaries.
