Social Media post on closing petrol pumps Fake

ADGP AS Rai warns rumour mongers of stern action    

CHANDIGARH, January 25: The Cyber Crime Cell of the Punjab Police on Monday, started proceedings to take legal action against the rumour mongers spreading a fake post about closing the petrol pumps in Punjab to thwart farmers’ tractor rally.

Terming the post fake, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Public Relations and New Age Media Amardeep Singh Rai said that the Punjab Government has never issued such notice to close the petrol pumps in Punjab. He also warned of stern action against rumour mongers who spread such fake news and rumours.

ADGP Rai said that notices are being sent to Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms to remove the post which is unauthorised.

“The Cyber Crime Cell has also been tracing the rumour mongers who made this post viral on social media platforms and appropriate legal action will be taken,” said ADGP Rai.
