SKM Calls for Massive National Mobilization of Farmers Against Repression and on Demands

New Delhi, 22nd February, ( Daljeet Kaur ) : The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) GB convened today to organize a massive mobilization of farmers across India in support of its demands and against the repression faced by farmers’ struggle.

Homage to Martyr Shubh Karan Singh

The GB solemnly paid homage to martyr Shubh Karan Singh, who tragically lost his life in police firing yesterday. This incident unfolded when Haryana police illegally crossed the border and opened fire on protesters, subsequently causing damage to several tractors at the protest site.

Blaming Union Home Minister and Demands

SKM squarely blamed Union Home Minister Amit Shah for conspiring to repress protesters, isolate and divide the Kisan movement, alienate the people of Punjab, and gain electoral advantage from this division. SKM demanded the resignation of Amit Shah, CM and HM of Haryana, ML Khattar, and Anil Vij.

Demands for Justice

SKM urged the Punjab government to lodge an FIR under section 302 against them and the police for murder, injury to protesters, and damage to tractors, and demanded a judicial inquiry by a Supreme Court judge into the firing and the damage caused to tractors. Additionally, SKM insisted on lodging an FIR by the Punjab Govt against Haryana officials.

Compensation and Committee Formation

Additionally, demanded Rs. 1 Crore as compensation to the bereaved family and repair expenses for the damaged 100 tractorsSKM GB decided to form a six-member committee aimed at holding consultations with all former SKM members. The objective is to develop a united action plan for achieving farmers’ demands and fostering issue-based unity. This effort aims to unite all Kisan organizations that were previously part of the SKM.

Call for Observances

SKM called for observing February 23, 2024, as a Black Day/Akrosh Diwas and February 26, 2024, as Quit WTO Day, urging farmers to protest government policies without blocking traffic.

Upcoming Events and Appeals

Moreover, SKM announced a massive Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat on March 14th at Ramlila ground, New Delhi, to intensify the struggle. Additionally, SKM appealed to various organizations and sections of the society to support and participate in this event.

GB Meeting and Representation

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha held its GB meeting at Kisan Bhawan today, convening with more than 100 member representatives from various states.
