Sandhwan Criticizes BJP Government’s Treatment of Farmers and agriculture
“MSP Why is it necessary?" Essay competitions will be held in colleges on the subject; announces Sandhwan
Chandigarh, February 26: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has said that the BJP-led Centre government has marginalized both the farmers and agriculture. Emphasizing the significance of MSP and sensitizing youngsters about it, the speaker announced that colleges will hold “MSP Why is it necessary?” essay competitions on the subject to raise awareness among the youth of the country and the state.

Speaker Sandhwan emphasized the need to advocate for farmers and ensure fair compensation for their crops akin to their own children. He noted that farmers have historically and currently initiated protests to voice their rightful demands. Sandhwan mentioned ongoing efforts to educate the younger generation about agriculture through essay competitions held in colleges. He highlighted that these competitions focus on MSP, with cash prizes of 51 thousand, 31 thousand, and 21 thousand rupees awarded to the top three winning students, respectively.
Sandhwan said that the Center BJP Government should accept all the demands of the farmers without any delay, including enacting the Minimum Support Price (MSP).The central governments in power have implemented policies that pushed both farmers and agriculture to the margins, said the Speaker. He pointed out that despite promises made by the central government in 2021 to fulfill various demands of the farmers, these demands remain unimplemented. He questioned why farmers are being prevented from going to Delhi to push for the demands that were previously accepted.
