SAD to start Punjab Bachao Yatra from Attari on February 1

Sukhbir S Badal will lead the Yatra and cover 43 constituencies in one month

Punjab Bachao Yatra will start from the Indo-Pak border

Chandigarh, January 19 – The Shiromani Akali Dal’s Punjab Bachao Yatra will start from the Indo-Pak border in Attari on February one and cover 43 constituencies across one month in the State. Party president Sukhbir Singh Badal will lead the Yatra along with senior party leaders after paying obeisance at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Disclosing this at a press conference here, senior leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the Yatra would expose both the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as well as showcase the contribution of successive SAD governments in the development of the State. “Both the earlier Congress government as well as the present AAP government betrayed Punjabis by going back on all promises made by them besides failing to undertake any development, employment or bettering the condition of the farmers, traders or weaker sections of society. We will go to each and every constituency with the SAD president covering two constituencies every day. We will ask people about the works done by both the Congress and AAP governments and also ask them to compare these with the performance of the erstwhile SAD governments”.

SAD president would meet and interact with the people

Dr Daljit Cheema said the SAD president would meet and interact with the people at designated spots in each constituency besides addressing them. “As per the feedback received by the party, each and every section of society is aggrieved. Farmers have not received compensation for repeated crop failures. Social welfare benefits of the weaker sections have been curtailed. Youth from the State have been bypassed in favour of outsiders in government recruitment”.

Dr Cheema said the Yatra would also highlight the breakdown in law and order and gangster culture due to which even home grown investors were shifting out of Punjab. “We will also take up the large-scale illegal sand mining being done by AAP legislators and ministers as well as the protection being given to drug traffickers by AAP legislators”. He said other issues including political vendetta besides corruption and complete surrender on the core issues of Punjab including its river waters and the State capital by the AAP government would also be taken up during the Yatra.
