SAD condemns lathi charge on protesting teachers

(Dr Daljit S Cheema asks CM to devote time in his office to listen to grievances of the people)

Chandigarh, July 6 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned the lathi charge on agitating teachers at Mohali even as it asked chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh to listen to their grievances and resolve them at the earliest.

In a statement here, former minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said it was shocking that agitating teachers, safai karamcharis, government employees and unemployed youth were not only being ignored but were being ‘lathi charged’ on the regular basis by an arrogant and unfeeling government which was not even ready to hold talks with them. “This does not bode well for a democracy”, Dr Cheema said adding “before the 2017 polls the Congress party had promised the moon to government employees but now is not even ready to listen to their genuine grievances”.

Dr Cheema also asked the chief minister to devote some time in his office to listen to grievances of the people instead of shuttering himself in his farm house or trooping constantly to Delhi to save his chair. “You had promised all contractual employees that you will regularize their services but have not fulfilled this promise till now. The government employees also feel shortchanged by the 6th Pay Commission report but you are unwilling to take any corrective action. Such a situation has never occurred in the State and this is why now government employees have lost complete faith in your government”, Dr Cheema told the chief minister.
