Jalandhar/Chandigarh, July 2 The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab dealt a major blow to the Shiromani Akali Dal ahead of Jalandhar west by-poll. The SAD candidate for Jalandhar west Surjit Kaur left her previous party and joined the Aam Aadmi Party along with her entire family and a large group of supporters.

AAP Punjab President CM Bhagwant Mann officially inducted Surjit Kaur and her family to the AAP and said that he wholeheartedly welcomes leaders like her to the AAP family. Bhagwant Mann said that Surjit Kaur and her entire family are very religious people who have great empathy for panth, Punjab and Punjabis in their hearts. Her husband Jathedar Pritam Singh also served the people and was also an MC. Surjit Kaur herself is a two time councillor.

Mann emphasized that this family has fought for Punjab and Punjabiyat, even going to jail to protect Punjab’s rights. He stated that the AAP is fortunate to be the first and only choice for those who wish to serve Punjab and Punjabis. Welcoming Surjit Kaur to the ‘Rangla Punjab’ team, Mann expressed disappointment in the miserable state of Akali Dal today, noting it was unfortunate that they announced Surjit Kaur as their candidate but then refused her support. As always, he criticized their tendency to prioritize personal agendas over the interests of the people and Punjab.

AAP leaders also addressed a press conference in Jalandhar on Tuesday to formally welcome Surjit Kaur to the AAP. In this press conference minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, AAP Jalandhar west candidate Mohinder Bhagat and AAP’s Jalandhar Lok Sabha candidate Pawan Kumar Tinu were present.
