VB arrests former Kanugo for taking Rs one lakh bribe

*Accused demanding Rs one lakh more money*

Chandigarh February 17 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested a retired Kanugo Sutantar Singh, a resident of town Rahon, in SBS Nagar district for accepting bribe of Rs one lakh.

Today, an official spokesperson of the state VB disclosed that they registered a case against the said accused based on an online complaint filed by Harmel Singh, a resident of village Chhokra in tehsil Nawanshahar, on the Chief Minister’s anti-corruption action line.

He further added that the complainant has alleged in his complaint that the above said accused has took illegal gratification of Rs one lakh to help in a revenue case regarding division of ancestral land and demanding Rs one lakh more bribe in the name of Tehsildar and Patwari. The complainant has also made recording of demand raised by the said Kanugo while demanding bribe and submitted to the VB as an evidence.
In this regard the VB range Jalandhar has investigated the complaint and found the allegations as true and correct. Based on this report, authorities have registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the aforementioned accused at the VB police station Jalandhar range and have subsequently arrested them. Further investigation into this case was under progress, he added.
