Chandigarh, October 25 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded that authorities register a criminal case against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson R. P. Singh for hurting religious sentiments and spreading hatred in civil society by referring to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) as the Shiromani Christian Community.
Call for Disciplinary Action and Apology
In a statement here, senior party leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema also asked BJP president J P Nadda to take strict disciplinary action against R P Singh besides tendering an apology to the Sikh community.
criminal case : Concerns Over Inflammatory Statements
Dr. Cheema expressed shock that the BJP national spokesperson made an inflammatory statement to defame the SGPC, established after significant sacrifices against the British government. He added that BJP leaders are deliberately tarnishing the Shiromani Committee’s reputation, particularly as it prepares to elect its President on October 28. Consequently, this action undermines the institution’s integrity and historical significance. Moreover, such behavior raises concerns about the motivations behind these attacks, further highlighting the urgency of addressing this issue.
Impact on Religious Minorities
Dr. Cheema asserted that such statements give a wrong message to religious minorities, stating, “We should not allow anyone to vitiate peace and communal harmony in Punjab.
Authorities must take strict action against the BJP leader as per law to send a clear message that we will not tolerate attacks on Sikh religious institutions.”
