Punjab should immediately withdraw all conditions imposed for purchase of moong : Biba Rajwinder Kaur Raju

Chandigarh June 13 : Strongly condemning the conditions imposed by the Punjab government for purchase of moong from farmers in the state, the President of Mahila Kisan Union, Biba Rajwinder Kaur Raju has demanded that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, in view of the interests of the farmers should immediately withdraw these absurd conditions and ensure smooth procurement of moong in the mandis.

                Talking to reporters here on Monday, Mahila Kisan Union President Biba Rajwinder Kaur Raju lamented that it seems that the CM wad taking such anti-farmer decisions on the ill advice of non-agriculturalist bureaucracy sitting in AC offices. “Therefore, demanding copy of mutation (Girdawari) as ownership for the purchase of Moong, procuring only 5 quintals of produce per acre and purchasing the crop only at the co-operative shops were an absolutely arbitrary decisions which would not be accepted by the farmers of Punjab,” he pointed out.

                The women farmer leader said while the decision of state to purchase moong at the minimum support price (MSP) was a welcome step, but without the advice of farmers’ organizations, such anti-farmer decisions were not for the smooth procurement of moong but only to create hindrances in the hassle free procurement process of this legume crop.

                Advising the Punjab CM to take the farmers into confidence before implementing any ‘Badlav’ on farming, Biba Raju has demanded that the state government should immediately withdraw these unnecessary conditions and start open procurement of moong so that farmers engaged in sowing of other Kharif crops could be saved from further troubles without wasting their time.
