ATTACK ON ISLAMABAD POLICE STATION: DGP GAURAV YADAV ORDERS STRINGENT ACTION AGAINST PERPETRATORS
CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR/JALANDHAR, December 17: Islamabad Attack : An attack occurred at the Police Station Islamabad in Amritsar. In response, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadavvisited the city on Tuesday. He directed officers concerned to guarantee professional policing. He instructed them to take strict action against the perpetrators. The visit came a few hours after the incident reported at Islamabad Police Station at around 3am on Tuesday.
DGP Punjab Stresses Use of Intelligence and Forensics to Tackle Crimes
The DGP Punjab chaired a high-level meeting. They emphasised the need for officers to use both technical and human intelligence. This intelligence is crucial to detect and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
He asked the officers to find common trends and patterns in such heinous crimes. He instructed them to conduct investigations in a scientific manner. They should use all the technical and forensic tools for detection of crimes. This approach will guarantee convictions of accused persons.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar attended the meeting. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ferozepur Range Ranjit Singh Dhillon was also there. DIG Border Range Satinder Singh and SSP Amritsar Rural Charanjit Singh attended as well.
Islamabad Attack : DGP Reviews Border District Law and Order
DGP Gaurav Yadav has reviewed the law and order situation of the border districts. He has also taken stock of the progress achieved in earlier attacks on police establishments. “All the earlier cases of attacks on the Police establishments have been solved successfully. This includes the IED implant at Ajnala Police Station and hand grenade attack at Police Post Asron in Nawanshahr. Accused persons have been arrested,” he said.
In a separate meeting, the DGP addressed all the Superintendent of Police (SPs). Additionally, he spoke to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSPs) and Station House Officers (SHOs) from border districts. Specifically, these districts include Commissionerate Police Amritsar, Amritsar Rural, Batala, and Tarn Taran. The primary purpose of the meeting was to brief them about the top priorities of the Punjab Police. The discussion emphasized the need for coordinated efforts. It highlighted focused strategies to enhance security and law enforcement in these critical areas.
Officers Directed to Intensify Action Against Crime
DGP directed the officers to intensify fight against counter-terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, and street crime. He also asked them to tackle such crimes professionally and guarantee prompt registration of FIRs in such cases.
He also encouraged police officers to act promptly on tips received via the newly launched Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline ‘9779100200’. This helpline allows citizens to report drug traffickers anonymously.
DGP Strengthens Team Bonding, Reviews Law and Order
The DGP also joined the ‘Bada Khana’ lunch organized by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police. This event provided an opportunity for officers of all ranks to interact with the Head of the Police Force. They exchanged ideas, thereby strengthening the bond essential for effective teamwork in the field.
Later, DGP Gaurav Yadav also visited Jalandhar. He held a similar meeting with senior officers. The attendees included CP Jalandhar Swapan Sharma, DIG Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla, and SSP Jalandhar Rural Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh. SSP Hoshiarpur Surendra Lamba and SSP Kapurthala Gaurav Toora were also there. Other gazetted officers and SHOs of the Jalandhar Commissionerate and Jalandhar range were also there. They attended the meeting to review the law and order situation.
DGP Leads Session on Crime Solutions and Drug Trafficking Model
The DGP also participated in a brainstorming session. It was organised for the officers at the cutting edge level. They discussed experience sharing and crime solutions adopted by various Police Stations.
During the session, they discussed the model adopted by the Police Station Aur in district SBS Nagar. It aims to combat drug trafficking at the point of sale by utilising public cooperation.
Effective Crime Solutions and Policing Initiatives Across Districts
He applauded the various crime solution techniques used by different districts. This includes crime mapping in Jalandhar city. They use appropriate Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections for organised crime in district Hoshiarpur. There is extensive use of CCTVs and establishment of sub divisional control rooms in district Kapurthala. There is focused attention on professional policing in district Jalandhar Rural. Campaigns aim to arrest persons involved in heinous offences. Traffic enforcement drives focus specially on two-wheelers.
