DAY 120 OF ‘YUDH NASHIAN VIRUDH’: 114 DRUG SMUGGLERS HELD WITH 4.1KG HEROIN, ₹9.6L DRUG MONEY
CHANDIGARH, April 17: Latest update : Punjab Police continued the war against drugs. The campaign, called “Yudh Nashian Virudh,” is on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. They aim to eradicate the drug menace from the state. For the 48th consecutive day on Thursday, Punjab Police conducted raids at 471 locations. These raids led to the arrest of 97 drug smugglers. They registered 60 first information reports (FIRs) across the state. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached to 6402 in just 48 days.

Police teams have also recovered Rs 40.9 lakhs drug money, 261 grams heroin, 699 grams opium and 1997 intoxicant tablets/pills from the possession of arrested drug smugglers.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav directed the operation, and police teams conducted it simultaneously across all 28 districts of the state.
Notably, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has asked the Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendent of Police to make Punjab drug free state. The Punjab government has also constituted a 5-member Cabinet Sub Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema to monitor the war against drugs.
drug smugglers : 150 Police teams conducted raids across the state
Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla provided details. He informed that over 150 Police teams conducted raids across the state. These teams comprised over 1200 police personnel under the supervision of 84 gazetted officers. They checked as many as 502 suspicious persons during the day-long operation.
The Special DGP stated that the state government has enforced a three-pronged strategy. The components are Enforcement, Deaddiction, and Prevention (EDP). This strategy aims to eradicate drugs from the state. As part of ‘De-addiction’, the Punjab Police has convinced six persons to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
