Punjab Govt to allocate grant of Rs.5 lakh each to 29 villages

Total Rs.1.45 crore to be disbursed across 29 villages

Chandigarh, December 12: Punjab Government will release a grant of Rs.5 lakh each to 29 villages for setting up of common crematoriums, following the approval of the file by Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar.
Divulging other details, S. Bhullar elaborated that the grant, totaling Rs.1.45 crore, will soon be disbursed to the villages of Shaheedgarh, Sampla, Mohammadipur, Dhatounda and Dhanula in district Fatehgarh Sahib, village Ghoh of district Pathankot, village Jhalian Kalan, Rampur and Gopalpur of district Rupnagar, village Khai of district Sangrur, village Harchandpura, Gajjumajra, Sanaulian, Sukhewal of district Patiala, village Kirhiyan, Chambal, Daliri, Madi Samran and Jawandpur of district Tarn Taran, village Mehroli and Dhakoran Kalan of district SAS Nagar, village Chhan Ghoga and Mumand of district Amritsar and village Rabbo Nichi, Khanpur Mand, Julfgarh, Keerhi, Nawan Salempura and Bhadewal of district Ludhiana.
Explaining further, the Cabinet Minister highlighted the policy wherein villages consolidating multiple crematoriums into a common one will receive a special grant of Rs.5 lakh from the state Government. He said that this special grant can be utilized for developing the respective crematorium or repurposing the old sites for parks or other purposes.
The Cabinet Minister expressed hope that this initiative will foster camaraderie among villages.
Notably, Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led government has disbursed a grant of Rs.1.95 crore to 39 Gram Panchayats for establishing common crematoriums during the previous financial year.
