Awareness Campaign Running Until October 4

Chandigarh, July 4

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has launched District Hubs for women’s empowerment in every district. Announced by Dr. Baljit Kaur, the Minister of Social Security, Women and Child Development, these hubs aim to boost women’s skills, job opportunities, digital literacy and economic growth.

Dr. Kaur emphasized the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, security, welfare, and health through various programs. The District Hubs will give rural women access to essential resources for skill development, employment, digital literacy, economic empowerment and better health and nutrition.

“The District Hubs will play a crucial role in empowering rural women and helping them take full advantage of government schemes,” said Dr. Kaur.

The minister added that to support this initiative, a 100-day awareness campaign started on June 21. This campaign will inform people about the different schemes and laws designed to protect and empower women and children, encouraging widespread participation.

She elaborated on key schemes highlighted in the campaign, such as the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, which provides financial assistance to lactating mothers (Rs 5000 for the first child and Rs 6000 for the second child if it’s a girl). Additionally, the Palna Scheme establishes crèches for children of working women, enabling mothers to work without concern. Moreover, the Sakhi One Stop Center Scheme offers free services to women victims of violence, complemented by the Women Helpline 181 and the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, which will receive heightened promotional efforts in the coming week.

This campaign will continue until October 4, 2024, ensuring widespread recognition and effective utilization of the government’s efforts for women’s empowerment.
