Banawali (Mansa), April 30:
The Punjab Government is working devotedly to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the State and very soon every sector would start receiving power supply in an unhindered manner. These views were expressed here today by the Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO while interacting with the mediapersons after visiting Banawali thermal plant.
The Minister said that in comparison to the previous years, the demand for power has increased by 40 percent and units in some of the thermal plants were shut leading to power supply being affected. Some of the units have been repaired while the others would also start power generation soon.The unit of Ropar thermal plant which was closed, has also been started today.
After inspecting the central control room of the Banawali thermal plant, the Minister said that there are three units at Talwandi Sabo power Limited banawali of 1980 MW with each producing 660 MW of power. He also divulged that out of these, one unit of 660 MW is closed due to maintenance. The officers have been directed to start this third unit within one week. He also suggested to the thermal plant authorities to try and use the Sewerage treatment plant water.
Divulging further, the Minister said that the Punjab Government led by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is making great efforts to ensure there is no shortage of coal in the thermal plants. The State Government had a meeting with the Union Coal Minister for coal supply and now the State has received mine near pichhwara in Jharkhand which would be started shortly to supply coal to the State.
The Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr. Vijay Singla said that although the power supply was affected due to some technical reasons but now the issue has been resolved. He further added that special arrangements regarding backups have been made in the State hospitals to deal with power cuts so that it does not adversely impacts the patients.
Earlier, the Power Minister and the Health Minister also planted saplings at the Banawali thermal plant.
The Chief Operating Officer Pankaj Sharma said that Harbhajan Singh ETO is the first power Minister to vidit Talwandi Sabo power corporation limited.
Among others present on the occasion included Health Minister Vijay Singla, MLAs Gurpreet Singh Banawali from Sardulgarh and Budh Ram from Budhlada, Deputy Commissioner Jaspreet Singh, SSP Gurpreet Singh Tor, SDM Mansa Harjinder Jassal Chairman Powercomm Baldev Singh Sran, and Director Generation Engineer Paramjit Singh.
