PM dedicates 300 bedded Satellite Centre of PGIMER in Sangrur

In a historic move, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, dedicated the 300-bedded Satellite Centre of PGIMER in Sangrur to the nation today. Additionally, the event marked the laying of the foundation stone for the 100-bedded Satellite Centre of PGIMER at Ferozepur, further strengthening healthcare accessibility in Punjab.

The august ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, government officials, healthcare professionals, and local representatives, all joining hands to celebrate this commendable initiative. Features and Facilities of the Satellite Centres

The Director PGIMER further elaborated, “In view of PGIMER’s prominence as a centre of excellence in the region, the patient load at the institute has been constantly rising in the past decades to the present levels. The emergency and routine services are over-burdened to cope with the patient load. Secondly, families have to travel long distances to avail services at PGIMER. Thus, it became imperative that newer outreach models of service to the public be explored. PGI Satellite Centres of Sangrur and Ferozepur in the state of Punjab are significant milestones and align with the vision of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India to correct imbalances in the availability of comprehensive, affordable, quality and holistic tertiary care health services to the people of Punjab and adjoining states.

Achievements and Impact

These Satellite Centers under the aegis of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India will have state-of-the-art facilities and will serve as beacons of hope, healing, and progress for the communities they serve. These Satellite Centres will also reach out to the underserved population in the far-flung areas through community outreach activities and by leveraging Digital health care infrastructure.”

Moreover, PGIMER’s Satellite Centre at Sangrur, with its 300-bed capacity, stands ready to cater to the healthcare needs of the surrounding communities, offering a wide range of medical services and specialties. Similarly, the foundation stone laying for the Ferozepur Satellite Centre lays the groundwork for future healthcare excellence in the region, promising enhanced medical care and facilities,” stated Director PGIMER Chandigarh.

Moreover, the Satellite Centre of PGIMER in Sangrur, Punjab, constructed with a project cost of Rs. 449 Crores and sprawling across 25 acres of land, boasts state-of-the-art facilities to cater to the healthcare needs of the populace.With a capacity of 300 beds, the Satellite Centre aims to alleviate the burden on the main PGI institution and enhance accessibility to quality medical care for patients.

Since its soft launch, Satellite Centre of PGIMER in Sangrur Punjab has already made a significant impact, with over 3,61,127 patients availing themselves of outpatient department (OPD) services across various specialties as of December 2023 and additionally, a total of 269 major and minor surgeries successfully performed.

Construction and Sustainability

The foundation stone laying ceremony at the PGI Satellite Centre at Ferozepur heralds a new era of healthcare excellence and accessibility, symbolizing a collective effort towards building a healthier and more prosperous future for all in the state of Punjab.

With a budget of 490.54 Crores, Satellite Centre of PGIMER at Ferozepur, Punjab is planned to house 100 indoor beds. Besides the hospital blocks, the other facilities at Satellite Centre Ferozepur will include Well-equipped Emergency Units; Modular Operation Theatres; ICUs & HDUs and Ventilators; Latest investigation and advance imaging modalities;30 Intensive Care and High Dependency beds. These services/facilities will ensure that needy patients from this area get optimal immediate management and affordable health care without having to wait for long periods.

The Satellite Centre at Ferozepur will also house 17 different departments of specialities and super-specialities along with minor and major Operation Theatres which includes Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery. Orthopaedics, Internal Medical, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Anaesthesia, Radiology. Hospital Administration. Ophthalmology, ENT, Dental, Community/Family Medicine, Psychiatry & De-addiction, Biochemistry and Pathology.

This Centre will facilitate 20 bedded Triage Area with (01) Minor O.T. and 30 bedded Emergency Ward. The diagnostic facilities will include MRI, CT-Scan, X-rays and all the Biochemistry and Haematological labs. The planners have designed this center to cater to the needs of 3,000 OPD patients coming for various departments.. There will be 100 indoor beds with ICU Beds, HDU beds, and Private Rooms. There will be 5 major operation theatres.

The building will be constructed using latest techniques and is proposed to be platinum-rated green hospital.
