Chandigarh, 30 September
On the arrest of Phagwara Sugar Mill owner Jarnail Singh Wahid, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that the AAP government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is fully committed to end corruption. This action is part of the Mann government’s movement against corruption.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters on Saturday, AAP Punjab chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang said that in the previous governments, such influential people used to cheat farmers and loot government money under political patronage and collusion with politicians. Now the government is taking action to curb their corruption.
Kang said that the government has already given its entire share for the payment of sugarcane farmers. But many private sugar mill owners are deliberately withholding farmers’ money. Sugar mills owe crores of rupees to sugarcane farmers, but they are not paying the money to the farmers. That is why today an action has been taken against the owner of Phagwara Sugar Mill. He added that if these sugar millers did not pay farmers their money then the AAP government will confiscate and sell their properties to pay farmers their dues.
