Chandigarh, August 9: As part of the ongoing special drives against anti-social elements launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in wake of forthcoming Independence Day-2024, Punjab Police on Friday conducted a special Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at and around all the Railway Stations across the state.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav directed the operation, which took place from 10am to 3pm simultaneously across all 28 police districts. During the operation, police teams, assisted by sniffer dogs, frisked people arriving and departing at railway stations.
Special DGP Arpit Shukla Monitors Statewide Search Operation
Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla, who personally monitored this state-level operation, instructed all CPs/SSPs to deploy at least two police teams per station under the supervision of an SP rank officer to carry out the operation. . “We had strictly instructed all the Police Personnel to deal with every person in a friendly and polite manner while frisking them during the course of this operation,” he added.
Over 2000 Police Personnel Check 1778 at 170 railway stations
He said that over 2,000 police personnel, organised into around 250 teams, searched for suspicious persons at various stations across the state while ensuring minimal inconvenience to the public.
During the operation conducted at 170 railway stations, police checked over 1,778 individuals and detained 31 suspicious persons for questioning.
Police Check 1,851 Vehicles
Apart from this, authorities instructed CPs/SSPs to check all stationed vehicles around the stations, especially those parked for over three days, using the Vahan app.
The Special DGP stated that police teams checked 1,851 vehicles parked around railway stations, and discovered that 628 of them had been parked for over three days.
