
PUNJAB POLICE, NDRF, SDRF & ARMY WORKING IN TANDEM; OVER 7600 PEOPLE RESCUED FROM FLOOD-AFFECTED AREAS
CHANDIGARH, August 29 : Heavy rainfall in the catchment areas is causing the Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, and Ujh rivers to rise. These conditions lead to swelling of the rivers. Punjab Police are teaming up with the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). They are also collaborating with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Civil Administration. They have evacuated and shifted as many as 7689 people to safe places so far. This information was provided by Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla here on Friday.
*Floods have affected the districts of Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Fazilka, and Ferozepur.**
Special DGP Arpit Shukla has been personally supervising the situation in the state. He said that Punjab Police has set-up relief camps at flood affected areas. Food and medicine langars have been organised for people being evacuated. Cattle fodder is also being provided for bovines. “Drones are tracing people for evacuation. They are also delivering food packets and other essential items,” he said.
He informed that 20 choppers of the Indian Army have been stationed in the state. They are there to evacuate and shift people to safer places.
He said that SSPs of flood-affected districts must stay in the field. They should personally monitor the situation regularly in their respective districts. All the arrangements are in place. SSPs are personally monitoring the relief work. They are shifting people to safer places, he said.
The Meteorological Department has issued a four-day alert. The Special DGP informed that the Punjab Police is on high alert. They have prepared to deal with any kind of flood-related exigencies
