
Issues notices to the DGP, Punjab and Registrar, Guru Kashi University, Bathinda, calling for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a Zimbabwean student was assaulted by a group of people and he succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS, Bathinda, Punjab on 21st August, 2025. Reportedly, he was pursuing graduation at the Guru Kashi University in Talwandi Sabo Town of Bathinda.
The Commission has examined the contents of the news report, if true, raise serious issues of violation of human rights. Accordingly, it has issued notices to the Director General of Police, Punjab. It has also issued notices to the Registrar, Guru Kashi University, Bathinda. They are calling for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.
According to the media report carried on 21st August, 2025, the victim had an altercation with one security guard a day before he was assaulted by him and his accomplices on 13th August, 2025. An FIR has been registered in the matter.
