Mother Tongue Punjabi to be further enriched through series of events in November: Meet Hayer
Languages Department chalks out elaborate State & District level program to observe 'Punjabi Maah’

The Languages Department has decided to observe November as ‘Punjabi Maah’ dedicated to the Mother language Punjabi. Under the same, State and District level events would be organized throughout the State for the month regarding various forms of literature. Besides, functions would also be held dedicated to those who have enriched the Punjabi language with their writings. It was disclosed by the Higher Education and Languages Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer in a press communique here today.
The Minister emphasised that the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is fully committed to propagate the Punjabi language. The Punjabi Maah would begin on November 1 in a State level function at the Bhasha Bhawan, Patiala after which daily programmes would follow at different places all across Punjab. The concluding event is scheduled for November 30. As many as 7 State level while the rest would be District level events and every district would get to host atleast one event.
A meeting was also held on the directions of the Languages Minister by the Principal Secretary Jaspreet Talwar at Punjab Bhawan with the officers of the languages department. The Principal Secretary divulged that apart from holding literary events during the inaugural ceremony of the Punjabi Maah, Best Punjabi book prize would also be distributed. A State level book exhibition would also be held from November 1 to 7 at Patiala. Besides, dramas would be staged by the drama parties and chat sessions would be organized with the upcoming writers. A ‘Punjabi Bhasha Chetna’ rally would also be held at the District level on November 1.
Disclosing the details about the programs, the Joint Director Languages Department Veerpal Kaur said that the Month long functions would comprise Interview with the writers, Kavi Darbar, Literary Quiz contests, Choreography, Lok Dhara, Lok Bhasha, Folk Song, Literature creation and Poetry recitation contests, Drama festival, Ru-ba-ru event, Puadhi Kavi Darbar, Book release functions and traditional folk singing competitions. Besides, events dedicated to Baba Sheikh Farid Ji, 300th birth anniversary of Waris Shah, 150th birth celebrations of Bhai Vir Singh, 125th birth celebrations of Novelist Nanak Singh and Sahit Rattan Ajmer Singh Aulakh would also be held.
