VB arrests absconding ASI in bribery case : Accused Police Official took bribe to release an impounded auto-rickshaw

Chandigarh, August 19:

          Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday arrested an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Gurmeet Singh, posted at Police Station Sudhar in Ludhiana district in a bribery case.

          Notably, FIR no 48 dated 16.06.2023 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at Police Station Sudhar and the investigation of the case was transferred to Vigilance Bureau Ludhiana Range.

          Divulging the details here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said that the complainant alleged that ASI Gurmeet Singh had taken bribe of Rs1500 to release his impounded auto-rickshaw and the accused police official earlier had also taken Rs 2500 as a bribe from him. The complainant also produced a video of the ASI while taking Rs 1500 bribe from him.

          He informed that the ASI was absconding and his anticipatory bail was dismissed by the court of Additional Session Judge, Ludhiana.

          A team of VB Ludhiana Range today arrested ASI Gurmeet Singh from village Gagewal in Barnala district. He will be produced in the court tomorrow, he added.
