Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA) and PGIMER, Chandigarh initiates National Symposium on Millets-2022

 

 

Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA), Punjab, and Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh jointly organized “National Symposium on Millets-2022” on 2nd September 2022 timings as 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA), Punjab, Sector 26 Chandigarh.

The Symposium was inaugurated by Sh. Anirudh Tiwari, IAS (Director General, MGSIPA). The welcome note address was delivered by Sh. Girish Dayalan, IAS (Director, MGSIPA).

 

Dr. B Dayakar Rao (Principal Scientist and CEO Nutrihub IIMR, Hyderabad), Dr. Raj Bhandari (Member, National Technical Board of Nutrition, Niti Aayog, GOI), Mrs. Deepti Gulati (Industry Chair Professor: Nutraceuticals and Fortification, NIFTEM, Sonepat, Haryana) and Dr. Navtej Bains (Former Director of Research, PAU, Ludhiana) were present during the inaugural ceremony.  Dr. Arun K Aggarwal (Prof & Head, DCM & SPH) said that the theme of the symposium is in align with the upcoming international years of the millet 2023.

 

Dr. Poonam Khanna (Associate Professor of Nutrition, DCM & SPH) briefed about the symposium theme and outcome of the symposium will be to come up with a roadmap for the upcoming international year of millet and to make this symposium outcome-oriented, Symposium welcomes addressed by Sh Girish Dayalan, IAS, Introduced the delegates to Symposium by Dr. Arun K Aggarwal, Prof & Head, updation given on Policy intervention for mainstreaming millets by Sh. Anirudh Tiwari, IAS, and Dr. B Dayakar Rao explained Value chain development and policy Implications: A way forward to the international year of Millets.

 

The symposium was conducted in two technical session parts, first was evolved by Dr. Raj Bhandari, Mrs. Deepti Gulati, and Dr. Tapas Chandra Roy, Certified Farm Advisor on Millets with Distinction at the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE). The second was a panel discussion: Millets the Future Crops. Experts involved were Prof. Jitendra Shah (Consultant GISE Lab, Consultant CTARA, IIT Bombay), Dr. NG Malleshi (Former Head GST Division, Central Food Technology Research Institute), Dr. Kanthi K Kondepudi (Scientist E, NABI), Dr. Puneet Khanduja (Lead-Head and Nutrition Microsave Consulting, New Delhi), Chef Vikas Chawla (FBO Representative) and Mr. Dilpreet Singh Shergill (Millet farmer).

 

In last, Dr. Poonam Khanna presented acknowledgment to the experts, delegates, our all partners (MGSIPA, IIMR, AHSAS, Punjab Agro, Suposhan, NetProfan, Eat Right India & NSI and the organizing team (Mr. Gagandeep Sharma, Mr. Prabhjot Singh, Mr. Kamal Kaushal and Ms. Suman from MGSIPA & Dr. Rachana Srivastava, Mr. Savitesh Kushwaha, Ms. Parul, Mr. Sahil and Mrs. Deepshikha from DCM & SPH, PGIMER, Chandigarh) to conducted program smoothly.

Participants are medical practitioners, students, research scholars, nutritionists & doctors from different regions.

Mr. Surender Verma from the Citizens Awareness group was also present during the occasion.
