Mann and Kejriwal to Dedicate GATPL to People

Chandigarh, February 8 On Thursday,Punjab Power Minister Harbjajan Singh ETO announced that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, along with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, will dedicate the Guru Amardas Thermal Power Limited (GATPL), Goindwal, to the people of the state on February 11, 2024.

According to a press communiqué, PSPCL incorporated GATPL on January 12, 2024. By February 07, 2024, the acquisition process concluded, making GVK Power (Goindwal Sahib) Limited a wholly owned subsidiary of GATPL.

They had named the thermal power plant Sri Guru Amardas Thermal Power Plant after the third Sikh Guru.

He emphasized, “Now, the thermal power plant of GVK Power (Goindwal Sahib) Limited is a property of the Punjab Government.”

The Power Minister noted that the acquisition would resolve multiple cases filed by GVK Power (Goindwal Sahib) Limited, totaling about Rs 3000 Crores in liability, thus relieving sudden tariff shocks.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the reduction in overall tariff benefits end-consumers and improves power availability in Punjab.

Regarding coal supply, ongoing discussions with the Union Ministry of Power aim to secure coal from Pachhwara Mine for efficient plant operation. Anticipated annual savings of about 300 Crores for the state through this initiative are expected.

The Thermal Power Plant, spread across approximately 1100 acres, has utilized around 700 acres for construction, leaving 400 acres unused.
