MCC issues 565 challans today for non segregating waste at their homes

*1351 challans in two days of the drive*

Chandigarh, February 21:- Committed to achieving 100% waste segregation, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has tightened the noose on violators, not segregating the waste at source level. On the second day of its continuous challaning drive, the MCC has issued challans to 565 residents for non segregating their waste at source level, and 1351 in two days.

While speaking on the issue, Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh said that it has been over three years since the MCC mandated segregation of waste at source, but as observed at the MRF centres and the waste processing plants, residents are not segregating their waste and giving mixed waste to door to door waste collectors.

She said that the MCC is committed to achieving 100% waste processing, but for it, 100% waste segregation is required. She said that it has been observed at the material recovery facilities as well as the waste processing plant that the wet waste is mixed up with a lot of dry waste, which adversely affects the process of composting.

She said that from segregation to recycling to making compost, residents should handle the waste responsibly and ensure that it does not end up in mixed form at Dadumajra landfill.
